Default whats gone wrong?!

Hello!

Newbie here!

I have a question about which chapter to play. I played proph with an E/Me and left the game for a couple of years.

I'm now back and have bought NF so i can get heros. I have a R/E in both games - both lv 8. Im going for a PvE machine gun build.

I really liked the storyline of proph and i dont know why i feel NF just isnt delivering the storyline im looking for. Even pre-searing i was hooked from the start but with NF it doesnt feel the same. I dont really know whats going on! Im in the digging outpost.

Either i havent given enough time for NF to grow on me or the story sucks. Can anyone advise me what to do? Play proph again or push on with NF?

Which campaing is longer? When can i port my ranger from NF to Proph?

Thanks!

You can switch over from Nightfall to Proph and vice-versa, it's part of the optional storyline.

Nightfall is a completely different setting to Prophecies and Factions, which it won't be to everyone's taste, you may just not like it, which is perfectly reasonable (I'm a fan of Factions personally).

Not being pulled into the story is no biggie, Istan is annoyingly slow at times.

Does that help a bit?

I thought the Nightfall story was great myself. But you are on Istan where things are still comparatively normal. No spoilers here, but when you get to the mainland, the story will have "taken hold" ... in more ways than one.

If u think that nf story sucks check the story from factions....lack of common sense stinks for miles.I only played that campaign to see how pointless story parts anet will implement in this campaign(almighty shiro bodyguard killed the grandmawith which was hardly able to say something that didnt sounded stupid, than pissed off and killed the emperor and than cose of that he become the most evil person in the universe...what a bs)
Anyway,nf is a bit better, but not so great as proph used to be

you need to reach the Consulate Docks mission to be able to get the quest to go to Prophecies... usually ppl are lvl 17ish or more by then. I personally loved the NF storyline, same with Proph and Factions suxed.

Thanks for the replie and yep i added NF to my proph account.

I guess im in two minds becaus i have two characters at the same level in both campaigns so i guess i have one foot in each camp.

I thinking of deleting my proph ranger so im forced to carry on with NF

I guess i havent really given it enough time judging by the sound of things. Also, which campaign is longer?

While I liked NFs story, I do think Prophecies is the best storyline out of all the campaigns. However after finishing it, and having bought the other campaigns, I no longer make chars in prophecies (except to help guildies learn the game), I make them in either Factions or NF, because getting to level 20 is so much quicker. When it comes to playing Propecies missions I just go to LA and get a run to Ascalon and start the missions from there. My guild has recently had an influx of players from a clan I'm in for another game, they're nearly all new GW players (the ones that aren't new had tried GW when it first came out and stopped playing) and I advise them to play prophecies through once, because IMO its the best one for new players (or old players returning from a big break) to learn the game, and the story line is more much better.

I wouldn't deleted any character. Just play your NF one and when you get upset at nightfall, play your prophecies for awhile. I liked Prophecies better myself,EOTN, and Nightfall. I agree that Factions was my least favorite out of them all. I would also say Prophecies is the longest.

I've been playing both and lean more toward NF because of the heroes and the various Treasure Chests. The frustrating part in NF is the gap in quests / missions until you reach First Spear...then it picks up again. But to repeat what an earlier poster said, the storyline really kicks off once you leave Istan.

I liked EotN actually.

It was the only chapter other than Prophecies where I didn't immediately skip every cut-scene (obviously due to that one dude in the team who never skips I have seen every cut-scene in the game....repeatedly....just like we all have)

In saying all of GW is pretty weak story/plot wise imo but I never viewed that as being a strong focus for Anet over game play.Strong RPG plots are still the realm of offline RPG if you ask me.

NF is a pretty good campaign... second best only to Prophecies. Good storyline with variations. Though as somebody already mentioned Istan does seem a bit slow.
Factions stink in both storyline and implementation. EotN is much better polished, but whole plot is just random and meaningless.
In terms of length - Prophecies is the longest GW campaign made, again followed by NF.

Also since you are only lvl8, I would suggest putting off both you rangers and starting with a NF specific character (dervish or paragon). Reason for that is that you will find all the skills you need for your NF character in the NF campaign.

edit:fixed horrible spelling

Nightfall really is best toward the end, but, yeah the first parts and the middle are pretty boring and you get the ole "been there done that" feeling pretty much. But, I really enjoyed the last few areas especially Realm of Torment (it's like some levels of hell and quite hard if you aren't prepared). For me the reason Prophecies stands out is of course because it was the first chapter and the other reason is because it is so huge and has a well laid out story (although it seems to jump around quite a bit from one thing to the next), but, I really enjoyed the desert area and hell's areas. Factions was the worst of the lot for me, now if you really want a totally boring stupid story play Factions what garbage it is. It's also very small, yet, it does have some nice GREEN equipment to salvage the fact it has a horrible storyline. Also the PVP from Factions Alliance Battles and Fort Aspenwoods are the BEST newbie/casual PVP player arenas and that's the only thing keeping Factions afloat. The characters from it aren't that great (although those dedicated to those characters will argue, but, most people don't want them or use them in their groups, so those characters usually have to make their own groups and pray and hope someone will join them, and still they will usually fail in most elite areas or areas worth playing in.

If you are where I think you are, and I remember correctly, the storyline of Nightfall has barely even started yet, I think the mission you are at begins to get towards it, but you don't really know what's actually happening for a little while yet.
I think NF has a great storyline, stick with it. Prophecies also has a great storyline, although some people don't like the middle of it.

If your in Istan you've not even began to experence the actual story. Everything on that island is basicly building up your character. Its like the Pre Searing of Nightfall - it kicks the story into action at the end of the Istan stage.

1. You should have posted this in Q&A.

2. And had you gone to Q&A you would have seen the sticky called Which Guild Wars Chapter should I buy?
